The Arizona Governor\u2019s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has awarded a $77,800 grant to the Arizona Trucking Association Foundation (ATA Foundation) for the fiscal year 2026. This continued support underscores a shared commitment to improving highway safety and raising awareness about commercial vehicle operations through the ATA Foundation\u2019s highly regarded \u201cShare the Road\u201d and \u201cTeens and Trucks\u201d programs.<\/p>\n
The funding will support the operation of the Foundation\u2019s mobile \u201cShare the Road\u201d exhibit, which gives drivers a firsthand view of the blind spots surrounding a commercial truck. By allowing participants to sit in the driver\u2019s seat of a real tractor-trailer, the exhibit provides a powerful, eye-opening experience that illustrates exactly where cars disappear from a truck driver\u2019s view. This interactive demonstration travels statewide, helping the public better understand how to safely share the road with large commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n
The grant also ensures the ATA Foundation\u2019s continued participation in GOHS\u2019s Public Education Program, expanding its presence on television and radio across Arizona. These outreach efforts aim to reach broad and diverse audiences with practical safety tips and life-saving messages.<\/p>\n

The \u201cShare the Road\u201d initiative focuses on three key objectives:<\/p>\n
Educating all road users\u2014including drivers, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and commercial vehicle operators\u2014on safe practices to reduce truck-involved crashes.
\nRaising public awareness about the specific safety considerations when sharing the road with trucks, especially those transporting oversized or heavy loads.
\nTargeted outreach to vulnerable groups, including new drivers and older adults, to increase understanding of truck blind spots, longer stopping distances, and other truck-related hazards.<\/p>\n
